The Kit Cat Klock has an impressive history, with its origins dating back to 1932 during the Great Depression. Designed by Earl Arnault, the clock's signature features include a wagging tail, rolling eyes, and a contagious smile, which brought joy to Americans during a challenging time.

In the 1930s, the Allied Clock Company in Portland, Oregon began manufacturing these unique pendulum clocks. The earliest models had no markings on the back and featured metal bodies, metal clock hands, and four toes on each of the two paws. These early clocks also had starter knobs or apertures on the front to "start" the motor spinning in the correct direction.

As the decades passed, Kit-Cat's design underwent subtle changes, with the addition of the top paws and a dapper bow tie in the 40s and 50s. During this time, Kit-Cat's popularity soared, and he became synonymous with the 1950s in America.

In 1962, the company moved production to Southern California and was renamed the California Clock Company. In 1982, Woody Young, a serial entrepreneur from Ohio, took over as President/Owner and kept Kit-Cat going strong into the new millennium.

In the late 1980s, the American-made legacy of Kit-Cat was almost lost due to the relocation of electric motor manufacturing to Asia. However, the California Clock Company developed a new battery technology, allowing Kit-Cat to keep ticking through the 90s and beyond.

The Kit-Cat Klock has celebrated several milestones, including its 75th anniversary in 2007, marked by the Great All American Road Show, and its 80th anniversary in 2012, celebrated with the sponsorship of a 100% US-grown commercial float in the Pasadena Rose Parade.

Today, after 85 years, Kit-Cat continues to be a timeless icon, with Kit-Cat Klocks sold in stores around the world. In fact, for the last 50 years, someone has purchased a Kit-Cat Klock every 3 minutes.
