The inventor of the Touch 'n Hold door closer had a personal reason for creating this product. Years ago, their young, clumsy daughter kept getting her fingers pinched while trying to keep their old screen door open, which would often reduce her to tears. The inventor also noticed that their elderly mother, who had a bad back and arthritic hands, struggled to use the old metal washer mechanism to hold the door open while doing chores around the house.

Inspired by these experiences and drawing on his background as an aeronautical engineer, the inventor set out to create a more convenient door closer solution, which some have called "the world's most convenient door closer" and even "the best invention since sliced bread."
